Port Huron, MI – The Port Huron Beacons of the United Hockey League (UHL) announce the signing of defenseman Don Malko.

Malko, a native of Winnipeg, Manitoba comes to Port Huron after playing three years professional with the Fresno Falcons of the WCHL (West Coast Hockey League) and Indianapolis Ice of the CHL (Central Hockey League). This 6-0, 195 pound defenseman earned one goal, eight assists, and 86 penalty minutes during the 2001-2002 season with Indianapolis. Malko took last season off from professional hockey to stay close to Winnipeg for personal reasons. He did play for a Manitoba senior hockey team that won the Allan Cup, the award for the best senior team in the world.

"Don plays the game rough, finishes his checks. He will be a great addition to the team," states Head Coach Bruce Ramsay. " He has three years professional experience, he is good in the locker room, and his teammates have nothing but positive things to say about him." Malko played with Beacons forward Casey Harris during the 2001-2002 season with the Ice.

The Beacons take the ice at home on Saturday October 25, 2003 at 7:05 PM against the city rival the Flint Generals. Port Huron will play 21 of the 38 home games on either a Friday or Saturday night. Get a complete schedule at the Beacons official website.
