
Notree named to CBA First Team

GARY, Ind. (March 18, 2003) â Bryant Notree was named to the Continental Basketball Association's All-League First team on Tuesday. He is the first Steelheads player to make the CBA's All-League First Team.
The 6-foot-4 Notree was the Steelheads leading scorer and the CBA's fifth-leading scorer, averaging 21.3 points per game. He posted Steelheads' high in points (37), field goals made in a game (16) and field goal attempts in a game (32). Notree accomplished those feats on Jan. 17 against Rockford. He also grabbed a season-high 15 rebounds to lead the Steelheads to a 118-113 come-from-behind victory.
Teammates Silas Mills and Galen Young also received votes for all-league honors. Mills, a Milwaukee native, averaged 19.3 points and 7.9 rebounds in 35 games with the Steelheads. He earned Player of the Week once. Young, a Memphis native, averaged 15.3 points and 8.3 rebounds in 45 games. He twice was named Player of the Week.
Notree was a CBA All-Star (21 points, nine rebounds in the game) and won the 2003 Slam Dunk Championship. He also placed second in the Newcomer of the Year balloting and tied for sixth in the Most Valuable Player voting. The Chicago native also earned CBA American Conference Player of the Week awards twice.
Leon Smith made the CBA's All-League Second Team last season. Neil Edwards was the International Basketball League's Rookie of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year in 2000-01.
Also making the First Team were: Dakota Wizards forward Andy Panko; Rockford Lightning guard Ronnie Fields; Yakima Sun Kings forward Damian Cantrell and Grand Rapids Hoops forward Jerald Honeycutt.
