Northern Ice Frost the Indy Speed 24-10

The Northern Ice frosted the Indianapolis Speed in Indy today 24-10. Both teams are in the WPFL's AFC north and were tied for first place (2-0).

The Northern Ice scored in the first quater, with an interception by Elaine Gonya. Anne Latzig scored in the second quarter on a 12 yard run. Both teams kicked a field goal. Laurie Ansorge's kick was a 36 yard to end the first half at 17-3.

The Speed scored on a 40 yard pass. Brenda VanCuick also scored on a 4 yard run for a final of 24-10.

The defense held the Speed to 172 yards, while the Northern Ice accumulated 356 total yards.

Kelly LaDuron had the only sac of the game, while Thea Cox lead the way with 3 rushes. Kristin Clemints was the top tackle with 9. Nicole Halverson also had an interception.

The Ice will play the Vixens in Minnesota next Sunday (new day and time) at 1pm.

Reminder: Laurie Ansorge, who tied a 53 year old NFL record with 9-9 PATs last week against the Dayton Rebellion, will get a try out with the Florida Firecats Arena Football team. The owners of the men's team will be fling in this Thursday from Ft Myers Florida. The tryout will be held at Anderson Field at 6pm. This will be the first time a woman will tryout for a men's professional football team.
