Northeast League names Bob Flori manager of the Aces
May 5, 2004 - Canadian American League (Can-Am) News Release
Durham, N.C. â The Northeast League named Bob Flori manager of the Aces, the league's "road" team, today. Flori is no stranger to running a traveling team as he served in the same capacity in 2001 for the Lehigh Valley Black Diamonds of the Atlantic League. Despite a roster of rookies and competing against teams filled with players with major league experience, Flori and his squad were involved in 37 one-run ballgames.
Flori put his name in the record books in the 1995 season when he led Aberdeen to a 56-13 mark, the best record in minor league baseball history. His performance earned him the Manager of the Year award. Flori followed that up with a 54-24 record in 1996, for a two-year mark of 110-37 and a winning percentage of .739, which ranks as the best two-year total. Flori has twice served as a coach in affiliated baseball with the Montreal Expos' Gulf Coast League team in 1999 and the Boise Hawks, an Anaheim Angels affiliate, in 1992. In addition to his independent league experience with Lehigh Valley, he has also coached the Sioux Falls Canaries (1998) and Winnipeg Goldeyes (1994) in the Frontier League.
Flori spent seven years in professional baseball as a player with the New York Yankees, Cincinnati Reds and Chicago Cubs.
