Nords Take Win in Game Two
November 14, 2021 - North American Hockey League (NAHL)
Maine Nordiques News Release
The Nordiques took on the Maryland Black Bears for game two of the weekend series and the final of 4 straight games against each other.
The first period consisted of four power plays for the Nordiques and two for the Black Bears, but neither team were able to find the back of the net. Iggy Belov got into it with a Black Bear for some carry over from the previous night. After some extra circulars and tensions flaring the first came to an end, scoreless.
The second period consisted of eight penalties in total which lead to some space opening up on the ice and scoring to open. After a Nordiques penalty kill; Caden Pattison had a big hit which freed the puck to Jack Parker, who hit Liam Whitehead on a breakaway which would burry a shot to make it 1-0. The Nordiques would then swing into a power play of their own and Caden Pattison would find Nick Bernardo who threaded it to Patrick Schmedlin burring a shot off the post and in, to make it 2-0. The Nordiques would then give up two straight power play goals and it was tied at 2 after the second.
After some back and forth and solid saves from both goalies it was still 2-2; until Jack Kurrle sniped one bar down for his first NAHL goal. Unlike the first two periods there were no penalties and after a great shot block, by Kris Zapata, the puck would go to Tristan Fasig who gave it to Kurrle who buried it into the empty net to seal a 4-2 Nords win!
Both teams were able to get 5/8 points in the 4 game home and home series. The Nordiques have the weekend off before facing the Gens at the Colisee on November 23rd and 24th!
