November 13, 2021 - North American Hockey League (NAHL)
Maine Nordiques News Release

The Maine Nordiques took on the Maryland Black Bears for the third straight game. Both teams took 3/4 points from each other last weekend in two games that both went to a shootout.

The first period started strong for the Nordiques as Jonny Meiers scored just 5:44 into the game. The Nordiques would then kill off a penalty and Jonny Meiers would use it to score again for his third goal in his third straight game against the Black Bears. The Black Bears got some opportunities to score but just missed until they were able to find the back of the net to cut the lead to 1. 2-1 Nords after first period.

The second started with an early Nordiques power play opportunity they came up empty on. This allowed for the Bears to gain some momentum and they were able to strike to tie it at two. The Black Bears would put the pressure on the Nordiques with their forecheck but the Nordiques would fend them off and get a couple chances of their own but no more scoring would occur and the game would be tied at 2 after 2.

The third period started with another Black Bears goal to give them their first lead of the night. Play would go to 4 on 4 and then the Black Bears would get a 4 on 3 power play that they almost scored on, but Gus Holt came up with a big blocker save. The Nordiques tried to get an offensive zone face-off with time winding down, but couldn't get any offense and a bad turnover in their own zone would lead to a Black Bears goal to seal the deal. Things would elevate after the whistle and we would get ten minute conducts assigned to both sides and time would expire. 4-2 Black Bears the final.

The Nords look for better tomorrow in game 2 against the Black Bears at 7pm back at the Colisee.
