Maine Nordiques News Release
The Nordiques fell to the Northeast Generals on Sunday on the road, but that didn't stop them from having their best period of the season which was the third.
The Nordiques and Generals felt each other out in the first period, until Brendan Gibbons would snipe one bar down off a forced turnover by Zion Green and a great pass by Aidan Connolly to make it 1-0 Nords late in the first. Avery Sturtz would make some big stops to keep it 1-0 after one period.
In the second, there was no scoring but special teams had to do their jobs as the Nords killed off a penalty early before headed to back to back power plays after Avery Sturtz was tripped up and we would see matching roughing calls. 1-0 Nords after the second.
25 seconds into the third period the generals would score on a weird hop in front to make it 1-1. The Nordiques, however, were able to battle past adversity. Aidan Connolly responded just seconds later to give them a 2-1 lead. On the next rush Avery Sturtz made a momentum stopping save. The Nords would get an offensive zone face-off and Flip Wiberg would win it cleanly back to Reese Farrel who sniped it to make it 3-1. The Nords weren't done there as Oliver Genest would score his first NAHL goal off a great feed from Caden Pattison. Brendan Gibbons would then add another off the Generals sloppy neutral zone breakout which caused a turnover. The Nords scored four goals in five minutes and ten seconds to break ahead 5-1. Aidan Connolly would pot his second of the game for good measure and the Nords would take it 6-1
Game two is tomorrow at 7pm at the Colisee.
