Knoxville Noise News Release

The Knoxville Noise held a successful tryout August 5th In Jackson, TN. There was a festive atmosphere at Liberty High School during the first ever tryouts held by the Noise in Jackson. There was close to 100 spectators, who came to watch 31 basketball players from the Jackson area, go through an 8-hour workout from the Noise coaching staff. They were put through drills and taught plays during the early part of the tryouts. Later that day they were divided into teams and given a chance to play games, showing if they had retained what they were taught. Head Coach Lonnie McCallie had this to say, "There is a lot of talent in West Tennessee and a lot of it showed up today."

There was a good mixture of talent participating in the tryout. Big name players like Anthony Rice (University of Memphis) and Bryant Nash (U of Kansas) mixed it up with Juco and DII school players like J.R. Williams (Jackson State) and Jason Williams (Lane College). Noise CEO, Gavin Raiteri was very impressed. "The city of Jackson is a basketball city. The support we were given during this tryout makes Suki Sports feel good about Jackson being a viable market for the ABA."

Eighteen players were selected from the tryouts to come back and compete for a spot in an upcoming exhibition game that will be held in Jackson. Twelve of the eighteen will be selected to participate in the exhibition game as well as play in a pro-am tournament in October.

These are the Players selected:

J.R. Williams, Pierre DuVentre, Gary Long, Jason Williams, Patrick Cozart, Milton Phinnessee, Nicholas Beauregard, Tony Lambert, Bryant Nash, Antonio Swift, Terrell Clark, Anthony Rice, Titus Lucas, Keith Hardaway, Contrell Alexander, Wesley Poe, Shamarco Carter, Brandon Parker, Simplice Njoya.

Thanks to everyone in Jackson who participated in making this a great tryout camp experience for the players and Suki Sports management.

Note: OurSports Central no longer actively covers the American Basketball Association (ABA) as a professional league due in part to its inability to publish and play a schedule and the transitory nature of many of its teams.
