NLL National Lacrosse League

NLL Entry Draft on August 29th

August 25, 2005 - National Lacrosse League (NLL) News Release

The 2005 National Lacrosse League Entry Draft takes place on Monday, August 29th at 8pm Eastern. The draft will originate from Rexall Place in Edmonton, home arena of the expansion Edmonton Rush, who join the league for the upcoming 2006 season. Local start time of the draft in Edmonton is 6pm (MT).

Enclosed please find the current order of selection for the Entry Draft, which consists of six rounds. The order is subject to change via trades between the teams.

I've also attached some information on 22 of the top prospects. The spreadsheet includes links to the player's college and/or Canadian junior lacrosse team to provide more information. The consensus #1 selection among those who follow the sport is Brodie Merrill, a defenseman who played his NCAA collegiate lacrosse at Georgetown University. Brodie is from Orangeville, Ontario, and is the younger brother of Toronto Rock defenseman Patrick Merrill. If Brodie is selected with the first pick, he and brother Patrick will be the only two brothers in league history to have both been #1 overall selections in the league Entry Draft. Patrick was the first player chosen in the 2002 Entry Draft, selected by Toronto. Patrick just completed his third season in the league, and has won two championships with Toronto (2003 and 2005). The #1 pick in the 2005 Entry Draft belongs to the expansion Portland LumberJax.

Finally, we've also enclosed a Top 20 Preview written by Paul Tutka for Laxmag.com. Paul is also the NLL editor of Inside Lacrosse magazine.

On draft night, the selections will be posted live on the league website, www.nll.com. An audio webcast will also be available. Your local team will issue a press release that evening, summarizing the team's selections.
