NLL All-Star coaches to be decided this weekend
Published on February 5, 2004 under National Lacrosse League (NLL) News Release
The Head Coaches for the NLL All-Star game to be played February 22nd at the Pepsi Center in Denver will be determined this weekend. The East and West squads will be coached by the first place coach in each division based on team records as of February 8.
The East coach will be determined by the outcome of Friday's Rochester Knighthawks at Buffalo Bandits game. Both clubs are tied for first at 3-2. The Bandits are coached by Darris Kilgour and the Knighthawks are coached by Paul Day.
A Colorado Mammoth (4-2) win Saturday night against Vancouver would send Mammoth coach Jamie Batley to the All-Star Game as head coach of the West Division All-Stars.
A Colorado loss would open to door for either Calgary's Chris Hall or San Jose's Johnny Mouradian to coach the West All-Stars. Both clubs are 3-2 entering the weekend, with Calgary holding divisional tiebreaker edge. A Mammoth loss and a Roughnecks (3-2) win Sunday in Anaheim will make Hall the coach of the West All-Stars. If the Mammoth and Roughnecks both lose and San Jose defeats the Vancouver on Sunday, Mouradian will lead the West All-Stars in Denver. The head coach of the second place team will be the assistant coach of the All-Star team in each division.
The East and West starters will be selected by a combination of fan ballots, media votes and selection by coaches and general managers. The respective head coaches will select the reserves. Fans can log on to NLL.com to cast their vote in the Killian's Red 2004 NLL All-Star Balloting through Februay 9th. The All-Star rosters will be announced on February 11th.
