NLL 2012 Regular Season Ends with Record-Setting Performances

The 2012 National Lacrosse League regular season concluded on Saturday night. The season will be remembered for some of the best individual performances the league has ever seen.

Colorado Mammoth forward John Grant Jr. scored six points (2 Goals, 4 Assists) on Saturday against the Minnesota Swarm to finish with 116 points, a new player record for a regular season in league history. Grant passed the mark of 115, set by John Tavares in 2001. The historic point came on a Grant power play goal with 4:22 remaining in the 4th Quarter.

Grant also led the league in goals scored this season with 50. Second place went to John Tavares of the Buffalo Bandits with 41.

Toronto Rock forward Garrett Billings tallied 82 assists this season, which shattered the league's previous single season record of 74, which was held by Dan Dawson and Josh Sanderson, who each set the mark in 2009. Billings finished his regular season with eight points (5 Goals, 3 Assists) against Edmonton to push his season total to 114 points, just two shy of the new record set by Grant on Saturday night and one shy of the previous mark by Tavares. Billings finishes with the third highest scoring season by a player in league history.

In the rookie scoring race, Adam Jones of the Colorado Mammoth and Kevin Crowley of the Philadelphia Wings were at the top in the three major categories. Crowley scored the most goals (36), while Jones had the most assists (47) and points (76). Both players put up great numbers in their first year in the league. Crowley had 71 points (36 Goals, 35 Assists) while Jones had 76 (29 Goals, 47 Assists).

Also setting a new single season league record was Bob Snider of the Washington Stealth. Snider finished the season with 319 faceoff wins, one more than the previous mark of 318, which was shared by his brother Geoff Snider (2008 season) and Peter Jacobs in 2005. Both Geoff Snider and Jacobs set those marks while playing for Philadelphia.

Earlier this season, Shawn Williams of the Edmonton Rush set the league's new record for consecutive games played when played in his 189th straight regular season game on March 17th. Williams played in all 16 regular season games for the Rush this season, which brings his active record to 196 consecutive games.

And just to end with a bang, the final game of the 2012 regular season found a place in the record books as well. The Buffalo Bandits and Washington Stealth played almost ten minutes of overtime before a John Tavares goal won the game for the Bandits, 17-16. The game was the fifth longest in league history at 69 minutes and 55 seconds of play (60 minute regulation plus 9:55 of overtime).
