Nikki Teasley named Cascade Dish & Assist Award winner
Published on September 26, 2004 under Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA) News Release
NEW YORK, September 26 â The WNBA announced today that Los Angeles Sparks point guard Nikki Teasley has been named the winner of the 2004 Cascade Dish & Assist Award.
Introduced during the 2003 season, the Cascade Dish & Assist Award is given to the league's leader in assists, with the winner receiving a one-year supply of Cascade and a Tiffany trophy. Cascade, a brand of the Procter & Gamble Company, sponsors Cascade Dish & Assist, a feature on nationally televised WNBA games and online at WNBA.com.
Teasley broke Sacramento Monarchs' point guard Ticha Penicheiro's stranglehold on the league's assist leaderboard by leading the WNBA in 2004 with 6.1 assists per game. Penicheiro led the league in assists in each of the six previous seasons. Teasley, the 2003 WNBA All-Star Game MVP, saved her best for last this season posting back-to-back double digit assist outings in the season's final two games.
Teasley's career average of 5.6 assists per game is third on the WNBA's career chart, and in just three seasons in the league, she has cracked the league's top-15 in total career assists with 561.
