Nighthawks Come Within Inches of Second Win

Knoxville, TN- The Nighthawks (1-7) hosted the Columbus Lions (5-3) on Saturday night in a
tight match-up that ended with a last second field goal.
The Lions started off early with a touchdown by wide receiver Maurice Dupree but their lead did
not last long when Nighthawks wide receiver Ryan Schuck answered with his own touchdown.
The first quarter ended with a 21-14 Columbus lead.
In the second quarter there was no rest in excitement as the Nighthawks kept up with the Lions.
Line backer Cassen Jackson-Garrison and wide receiver Cedric Jones both scored touchdowns to
bring the Columbus lead down to 39-34.
With 1:40 left in the third quarter the Nighthawks tied the game at 42 with a touchdown by
Jackson-Garrison and a two point conversion by Schuck.
Quarterback Willie Copeland threw an 8 yard pass to wide receiver Ryan McDaniel to tie the
game at 55 with less than a minute left in the game.
The game was a battle to the end with a last second field goal made by Columbus' kicker
Chandler Brooks to take them to 58-55 win.
"This game was definitely a close one and we played a great team. We had several missed
opportunities to score points which ultimately cost us the game. We continue to show
improvement across the board which is boosting the team's confidence. Tonight's loss was a
tough one but this proves we are not done fighting for a place in the playoffs," said Coach Chris
MacKeown.
The Nighthawks will be on the road for two weeks visiting Louisiana Swashbucklers and Albany
Panthers before they at back at home on Saturday, June 9th against the Richmond Raiders. For
