KNOXVILLE -- The Knoxville Nighthawks have added some more SEC flavor to their roster and also landed another quarterback

Former Tennessee and Carson-Newman defensive back Darrell Carlton, ex-Vanderbilt running back Cassen Jackson-Garrison, and McPherson College standout quarterback Shane Mascarenas all have signed with the team and are expected to report for training camp in February.

"Carlton is a veteran with years of experience and success in arena football and Jackson is just a great all-around football player that will do many things for this team on offense, defense and special teams,'' said coach Chris MacKeown

"Shane is a young quarterback with a ton of upside. He loves football, has a quick release and is an accurate passer."

Jackson-Garrison -- Mr. Tennessee Football in 2004 - spent time with the Kansas City Chiefs after closing out a Vanderbilt career in '07 that included 1,814 rushing yards with 18 touchdowns and 40 receptions for 290 yards and a score.

Carlton (5-11, 205) was with Tennessee before transferring to Carson-Newman. He moved on to an arena football career and spent time with the Birmingham and Rio Grand Valley in af2.

Mascarenas (6-foot, 190) was a conference player of the year while at McPherson and played in the IFL last season. As a junior at McPherson he set a school record for passing yards (3,201) and touchdowns (33) and followed that up with 3,419 and 35 touchdowns as a senior to finish as the school's all-time leading passer.
