NIFL suspends Fayetteville's Siani
June 20, 2005 - National Indoor Football League (NIFL) News Release
The National Indoor Football League announced today the suspension of Coach Mike Siani of the Fayetteville Guard for comments made to the Lake Charles (LA) American Press following the Guards game on Saturday, June 18 against the Southwest Louisiana Swashbucklers.
The Guard forfeited the privilege of having a coach on the field in the 2nd quarter when Siani became incensed when he was penalized for arguing a call with the Referee. Siani is quoted as saying "he just made up that rule on the spot. That's not a rule. He made up a bogus rule, and that gave them a big advantage to have a coach on the field when we couldn't have any of ours out there." "The difference in this game was officiating," said Siani. " These are the worst officials I have ever seen. These guys should be ashamed to call themselves officials."
"Coach Siani violated league rules when he publically criticized the game officials" said Dan Blum, Vice President of Operations for the NIFL. "When a coach protests an officials call in an unprofessional manner his team can lose its on-field privilege for the remainder of the game" said Blum.
The suspension will be for one game, on June 25 in Fayetteville versus Miami.
