NIFL Produces Next Arena Football League Team
October 15, 2004 - National Indoor Football League (NIFL) News Release
Lafayette, LA--The National Indoor Football League is pleased to announce that the Utah Warriors franchise application for play in the Arena Football League has been voted on and approved by the AFL Commissioner and Board of Governors.
The Utah Warriors will field a team in the Arena Football League starting in 2006.
With expansion a top priority for all leagues, the AFL has tapped into a prime NIFL market that has shown strong growth over the last few seasons. The NIFL continues to develop strong professional indoor football organizations across the United States since forming in 2001. The move of the Warriors to the Arena Football ranks continues to strengthen NIFL franchise values for member teams across the country.
"We strongly believe that our teams can compete with the Arena Football League, from market size to level of competition," NIFL President Carolyn Shiver said. "We appreciate the compliment paid to our league by the AFL Commissioner and Board of Governors, and look forward another strong year for NIFL football in 2005."
The Warriors still hold the rights to their NIFL franchise, though will not play this upcoming season. Utah ownership is looking to sell and re-locate the team to another city in the Western United States.
The National Indoor Football League will kick off its fifth anniversary season in March 2005, with teams spanning coast-to-coast. For more information about the NIFL, please call 888-422-9682 or visit us online at www.nationalindoorfootballleague.net.
