July 8, 2004 - National Indoor Football League (NIFL) News Release


Lafayette, LA--The National Indoor Football League is pleased to announce the top players from Week 17 action, as follows:

Atlantic Conference

Joe Gunn, Running Back - Tupelo FireAnts

Atlantic Conference Offensive Player of the Week

FireAnts running back Joe Gunn helped lead Tupelo's ground attack against the Houma Bayou Bucks this past weekend. Gunn carried the ball 22 times for 157 yards and five touchdowns. He also hauled in one pass for 10 yards in the 54-50 win over the Bucks on Friday night.

Nick Mitchell, Defensive Lineman - Beaumont Drillers

Atlantic Conference Defensive Player of the Week

Drillers defensive lineman Nick Mitchell played a key role in Beaumont's win over the Evansville BlueCats on Saturday. Mitchell was responsible for eight solo and two assisted tackles, including three tackles for a loss. He also hurried the BlueCats QB on two occasions and recorded three sacks for 15 yards as the Drillers went on to win 51-38 at home.

Justin Hutton, Kicker– Lexington Horsemen

Atlantic Conference Special Teams Player of the Week

Horsemen kicker Justin Hutton had another solid performance for Lexington as they defeated Staten Island 83-6 on Friday. Hutton accounted for 10 total points as he was successful on 10 of 11 extra point attempts as the Horsemen rode past the Xtreme in their final regular season game.

Cory Grow, Wide Receiver - Billings Outlaws

Pacific Conference Offensive Player of the Week

Outlaws wide receiver Cory Grow helped lead Billings to a 55-44 win over the Wyoming Cavalry on Sunday. Grow hauled in 10 receptions for 149 yards and three touchdowns as the Outlaws notched their 11th win of the regular season.

Cos Abercrombie, Linebacker - Wyoming Cavalry

Pacific Conference Defensive Player of the Week

Wyoming linebacker Cos Abercrombie had a solid outing with the Cavalry as they fell 55-44 on Sunday. Abercrombie was responsible for two solo and three assisted tackles, including one tackle for a loss. He also hauled in two interceptions for 22 yards and recorded two passes defended.

Aaron Turner, Kicker – Billings Outlaws

Pacific Conference Special Teams Player of the Week

Billings kicker Aaron Turner was a perfect 3 of 3 on extra point attempts as the Outlaws defeated Wyoming 55-44 on the road Sunday.
