LAFAYETTE, LA--The National Indoor Football League is pleased to announce the top players from Week 8 action, as follows:
Atlantic Conference
Doug Coleman, Quarterback â Houma Bayou Bucks
Atlantic Conference Offensive Player of the Week
Coleman, a native of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, had an impressive outing against the FireAnts, as he led the Bayou Bucks to a big 84-55 win. Coleman completed 18-of-27 passes for 198 yards and six touchdowns. He also ran the ball five times for 37 yards and one touchdown.
Curtese Poole, Defensive End/Linebacker â Ohio Valley Greyhounds
Atlantic Conference Defensive Player of the Week
DE/LE Curtese Poole helped lead a strong Greyhounds defense as they rolled over the Atlantic City CardsSharks 51-8. The 6-foot-4, 290-pound Poole was responsible for 8.5 total tackles, including one tackle for a loss, one interception, five passes defended, two blocked kicks and one sack.
Brad Zientara, Kicker â Evansville BlueCats
Atlantic Conference Special Teams Player of the Week
BlueCats kicker Brad Zientara was all leg this past weekend, as he tallied 11 total points on Saturday. Zientara completed 8-of-9 extra point attempts along with a 48-yard field goal as the BlueCats went on to defeat the Freedom, 71-68.
Pacific Conference
Wes Cates, Running Back â Tri-City Diesel
Pacific Conference Offensive Player of the Week
Columbus, Ohio native Wes Cates continues as an offensive powerhouse for the Diesel this season. Cates hit the ground running this past weekend against the Sioux City Bandits. Cates rushed on 29 attempts for 98 yards and six touchdowns. He also hauled in five receptions for 44 yards and one score as the Diesel went on to defeat Sioux City, 68-44.
Theo Johnson, Defensive Back â Tri-City Diesel
Pacific Conference Defensive Player of the Week
Johnson helped lead the defensive efforts of the Diesel this past weekend. The Oakland, California native was responsible for 5.5 total tackles, two interceptions for 38 yards, and also had three passes defended when all was said and done against Sioux City.
Trey Ransom, Kicker â Wyoming Cavalry
Pacific Conference Player of the Week
Wyoming kicker Trey Ransom helped lift the Cavalry over the Utah Warriors this past Saturday. Ransom was perfect on three field goal attempts, booting the ball 54, 46, and 20 yards, respectively, including the game winning field goal with 27 seconds left on the clock in the 4th quarter. The 5-foot-9, 170-pounder also completed 4-of-5 extra point attempts as the Cavalry charged past Utah, 51-49.
