LAFAYETTE, LAâThe National Indoor Football League is pleased to announce Players of the Week from Week 4 action around the league as follows:
Pacific Conference:
Wesley Cates - Running Back, Tri-City Diesel
Pacific Conference Offensive Player of the Week
Diesel running back Wesley Cates provided a strong ground attack in Tri-City's win this past weekend over the Wichita Falls Thunder, 47-42. Cates ran the ball on 21 carries for 84 yards. The 6-foot, 215-pound native of Columbus, Ohio, also hauled in four catches for 47 yards for the Diesel. Cates also had three kick returns for 69 total yards combined. Tri-City is currently 2-1 on the season and will take on the Omaha Beef this Saturday in Kearney.
Donovan LaViness - Linebacker, Omaha Beef
Pacific Conference Defensive Player of the Week
Omaha linebacker Donovan LaViness was a tackling machine this past weekend as the Beef defeated Sioux City, 38-26. LaViness was responsible for 12 total tackles, including one tackle for loss. He also played a key role in two goal line stands against Sioux City. LaViness and the rest of the Beef will take on the Tri-City Diesel this Saturday, looking to defend their 3-0 record to date.
Steve Lovell - Wide Receiver, Omaha Beef
Pacific Conference Special Teams Player of the Week
Beef wide receiver Steve Lovell gained serious yardage on kickoff returns as part of Omaha's special teams unit. Lovell, an Omaha native, returned three kicks for 94 yards against Sioux City this past Saturday.
Atlantic Conference:
Will Hall - Quarterback, Tupelo FireAnts
Atlantic Conference Offensive Player of the Week
FireAnts quarterback Will Hall completed 7 of 8 pass attempts good for 202 yards and four touchdowns against the Greenville RiverHawks this past Saturday in Tupelo, and this was just in the first half of the game. Hall also rushed for one touchdown, as the Tupelo FireAnts rolled to a 111-12 win over the RiverHawks. The FireAnts will hit the road this weekend against Beaumont.
David Dorsey - Linebacker, Houma Bayou Bucks
Atlantic Conference Defensive Player of the Week
Houma linebacker David Dorsey was a key player in a big win over the Beaumont Drillers this past weekend. Dorsey was responsible for 12 solo tackles, five assisted tackles (including one tackle for a loss) and one forced fumble in the Bucks 52-43 win over the Drillers. Dorsey, a 6-foot-2, 230-pound native of New Orleans, will enjoy a bye week along with the rest of his team as Houma sits with a 2-1 record on the season to date.
John Wehrle - Kicker, Ohio Valley Greyhounds
Atlantic Conference Special Teams Player of the Week
Greyhounds kicker John Wehrle played a strong game with Ohio Valley, as they defeated Myrtle Beach, 56-32. Wehrle completed two of three field goal attempts, including a 25 and 22 yarder. He was also 6 of 7 on extra point attempts on the night. The Greyhounds travel to Staten Island this Saturday to take on the Xtreme.
