Philadelphia Rebels News Release
Jamestown, New York - Jamestown Rebels are pleased to announce that Nick Petruolo has committed to Union College. Nick becomes just the second player for the Rebels to commit this season.
The 18-year-old New Jersey native will be staying in the Big Apple and take his talents just five hours East to play NCAA Division I hockey. The 5'11" 180lb right-handed defenseman will be playing for the Dutchmen within the next two years. He has 104 points in 195 games played in his young career. Union College is a member of the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC). Union has had 11 players reach the National Hockey League since their program was started in 1904. Union won the NCAA Division I Championship for Ice Hockey back in 2014.
Petruolo started his career with the New Jersey Colonials Bantam team (AYBHL). He then played two seasons with the New Jersey Hitmen 16U (USPHL 16U). He also played two seasons with Princeton Day School (USHS-Prep). Nick also played for the North Jersey Avalanche U18 (T1EHL U18) and 18U (AYHL 18U) teams. Last season Petruolo was named Atlantic Youth Hockey League 18U (Premier) All-American Defensman. The Rebels acquired Petruolo from the Minot Minotauros where he was drafted by them in the 2nd round 44th overall. He played just seven games for them this season, recording two goals and two assists. In his 10 games played for the Rebels thus far he has recorded four points all coming from assists.
Nick had this to say when asked about committing to Union "It's an honor to be committed to Union. The next step is to be ready to play when I arrive. Also, to be the best I can be to contribute to the team's goal of winning a national championship". Assistant Coach Josh Brown talked very highly of the young defenseman and stated this about his commitment to play for Union "I think it is a great fit and I know they really like him. He does a lot of things well. He likes to finish hits, is a big strong kid, and brings a new element that we did not have before".
The Jamestown Rebels are always looking to have their players succeed on and off the ice. They have excelled in having players go on to play for the NCAA. Just last season, the Rebels had ten players commit to colleges across the country. They are hoping to continue their success this season. For ticket information call (716)-484-2624.
