Boston Cannons News Release

Boston - The second season in the MLL and with the Boston Cannons can only be deemed as a successful one for Nick Marrocco as he was able to step into a leadership role with ease both on and off the field. After only playing four games for the Cannons in 2018, the promising goalie was named as a Co-Captain for the Cannons prior to their 2019 training camp.

He made sure to not let his believers down throughout the year as he consistently performed throughout the year for Boston and was one of the most reliable goalies throughout the year. Finishing as the MLL's third best goalie according to the MLL goalie rankings released on October 23, Marrocco will look to continue to close down attacks during the 2020 season.

Marrocco has made such an impact on his team, the sport and the community. Read what others are saying about the Cannons' captain and read a few of his quotes about the game.

Quotes About Nick Marrocco

"He's really got a confident edge to him, and I think that's the best way to put it," Quirk said. "He's not cocky, he's not arrogant, he's not disrespectful to his opponent, but he's got an edge to him that's so competitive. Yeah, he'll chirp a little bit, and I think that gets him fired up, it gets his teammates fired up...It gives our team an edge."

"He remembers where his roots are from and how hard he has to keep working," Quirk said. "He just wants to be the best. He literally wants to be the best goalie in the world, and I think he has the ability to do that because of that edge and that underdog feeling." - Boston Herald

"I'm so proud to have a person of Marrocco's character on our team," said Sean Quirk, head coach of the Boston Cannons in an official statement. "Obviously he's very talented on the field, but he doesn't slow down even after leaving the field."

"Ryland Rees was coached by David Huntley as a young kid, and he told me lot about him, and what kind of coach he was. I have learned the significance of this award and it is a huge honor. I certainly know how important this award is, and it is pretty special for me. I intend to do all I can to continue to impact the community any way I can."

He's such a down-to-earth guy who takes advantage of his platform in all the right ways, by helping others. He's only in his second year and he was a unanimous selection for captain by the coaching staff as he is extremely humble on and off the field. We're so proud of the person he is and the things that he's been able to do for our team, the Boston community and the lacrosse community." - Enterprise News

Quotes By Marrocco

"For him [Coach Sean Quirk] to give me that opportunity, I am in a sense playing for him a little bit, too," Marrocco said. "I trust him and I'm like 'Alright, this guy gave me a chance so I'm going to prove him right and prove everyone else in the league wrong.'"

"I definitely have a chip on my shoulder because I know how good I was and how good I could be," Marrocco said. "There are certain people who see that in you and certain people who overlook you. That's just how life works, but it definitely pushed me to be better." - Boston Herald

"There are a lot of guys in our league doing a lot of good things in their respective cities, so I had no idea what my chances were," said Marrocco. "It was a very cool feeling to win it, because it's part of a great year, coming back to Boston and playing for the Cannons."

"I think it is cool the way the Cannons make sure to give all the younger kids plenty of access to us, both before the games, and with the post-game autograph sessions. All of that interaction helps us grow our sport. We know how those kids look up to us, and we want to do our part, and ultimately it helps us too." - Enterprise News

"My dad was always the guy I would go to for advice on sports, and he always gave me the brutal honest truth, which I respected."

"I think it is incredibly helpful to play multiple sports in high school. It ultimately makes you into a much smarter athlete. I certainly feel there are things in lacrosse that translate to lacrosse, but also just learning the sport of hockey certainly helps as you step onto the lacrosse field." - Boston Lax

"One of my favorite memories?" Marrocco repeated. "Freshman year. Big East tournament. Playing Marquette in the semi-finals at Villanova. That was a really awesome moment, not only just because I was a freshman, and playing in such a big game, but also the environment there was really cool. And we handled Marquette that game, so that was a really memorable moment for me." - The Hoya
