January 31, 2011 - North American Soccer League (NASL)
Montreal Impact News Release

MONTREAL ‚¬" With Major League Soccer on the horizon for the Montreal Impact in 2012, the club announced Monday the appointment of Nick De Santis as the club ‚¬â„¢s sporting director, while Matt Jordan becomes his main assistant as the team ‚¬â„¢s director of soccer operations.

Technical director since June 2008, Nick De Santis will now have even more responsibilities with the Impact. Along with supervising the first team, he will also oversee all of the technical aspects of the four Academy teams (U21, U16, U15, U14) as well as the soccer schools.

‚¬Å“We ‚¬â„¢re already starting to assemble the pieces that we believe will lead to success from the moment we join MLS, ‚¬Â declared Impact president Joey Saputo. ‚¬Å“We expect our team to be competitive from the very first season. Nick proved in the past that he ‚¬â„¢s capable of leading this club to victory and I have the utmost confidence in his ability to lead the entire technical staff. ‚¬Â

‚¬Å“I ‚¬â„¢m very proud and pleased to accept this role with the club, which will resemble the role that I already had, ‚¬Â said Impact sporting director Nick De Santis. ‚¬Å“We are going to build this team the right way by seeking out the best elements available, in order to try to be successful. That process has already begun. ‚¬Â

Nick De Santis captured the league championship with the Impact in all three positions that he has held with the organization. He won as a player in 1994, as head coach in 2004 and as technical director in 2009. In his role as technical director, De Santis was the architect of the team that won the Nutrilite Canadian Championship in 2008, the same team that went on to qualify for the quarterfinal round of the CONCACAF Champions League in February of 2009.

JORDAN AS DIRECTOR OF SOCCER OPERATIONS

With the primary goal of assisting Nick De Santis in MLS, the Impact hired Monday Matt Jordan as the club ‚¬â„¢s director of soccer operations.

Jordan ‚¬â„¢s main responsibility will be to assist Nick De Santis with the first team, by acting as the liaison between the Impact and MLS head office when it comes to trades, player signings and releases, player loans, as well as the acquisition of foreign players.

Jordan will also support De Santis with regards to the team budget, salary cap, contract negotiations, league regulations, as well as the recruitment and development of Academy players.

‚¬Å“I want to surround myself with people I can trust, as well as those who have been loyal to the club and are determined and hard-working, ‚¬Â said De Santis. ‚¬Å“Matt knows the team ‚¬â„¢s philosophy and knows what it will take to get to the next level and achieve success. He understands the league very well and adds even more credibility to our staff. Matt Jordan was the ideal candidate for this position. ‚¬Â

‚¬Å“I am very thankful for the confidence that Joey, Nick and the organization have shown in me as I move into this new position, ‚¬Â said Matt Jordan. ‚¬Å“I plan on putting the same work ethic, professionalism and commitment that I had as a player into this next role with the Montreal Impact as we begin to build towards the MLS in 2012."
