Niagara Daredevils News Release
The Niagara Daredevils will join the Buffalo Rapids, NE Pennsylvania Breakers, Rochester Razorsharks , Baltimore and Delaware in the ABA¹s newly named Connie Hawkins Division for the 2005-2006 season. Named after one of the original American Basketball Association¹s (1967-75) all-time greats, the Connie Hawkins Division will be one of 10 ABA divisions scattered across North America.
Connie Hawkins was one of the shining stars of the original ABA, winning the league¹s Most Valuable Player award in 1968 while leading Pittsburgh to the league title. The native of Brooklyn, New York was an ABA All-Star in 1968 and 1969 before moving to the NBA. Hawkins, elected to the Basketball Hall of Fame in 1992, played with the Phoenix Suns, Los Angeles Lakers and Atlanta Hawks in the NBA and was a four-time NBA All-Star. The 6¹8" forward averaged 16.5 points per game in the NBA.
