NFL Europe Fantasy Football: Get the Fix
by Tommy Brown
February 25, 2005 - National Football League Europa (NFLE)
The 2004 NFL Fantasy Season has come and gone and you are probably in withdrawal. Hopefully your team did well enough for the glory to last all summer. But the real question is: What are you going to do with your pathetic life until the Fantasy Football Draft next August?
You have over 9 months of Fantasy Football off-season to kill and your natural thought may lead to Fantasy Golf, Fantasy NASCAR or, dread the boredom, Fantasy Baseball. But you will be soon to realize no other fantasy sport compares to Fantasy Football and nothing compares in the Fantasy world than having one of "your guys" cross the goal line for a touchdown.
Okay, the NFL draft in April can cure a little bit of your Football Fix, but for only the truly deranged and Fantasy Football starved, there is only one answer: NFL Europe Fantasy Football.
One of my fellow fantasy football league junkies and I formed a NFL Europe Fantasy Football league last year and I must say it did cure Fantasy Football anticipation for the entire NFL Europe season. There are only 6 NFL Europe teams, so having a league that is more than 2 people (or maybe even 4 at the maximum) would make it impossible to fill out a roster.
One good thing about NFL Europe is that if you have been playing NFL Fantasy for a few years, you can hearken back to the "good ole days" of pre-internet scoring and pre-internet cheat-sheeting. Yes, to be a NFL Europe Fantasy Champion you need to do your own research on who the players are and where they should be ranked prior to the your draft and not just take the highest player ranked on the internet cheat sheet you printed off the in the morning.
And best of all, (big gasp to all you bandwagon fantasy players) you will need to add up your fantasy numbers each week using a box score and maybe a calculator if you are mathematically challenged.
Make sure to throw in a bonus "National" player into your lineup template to makes it more exciting. You can make the regular season worth something by creating a spread on your World Bowl Title with 3 points for each additional win. My head-to-head league uses week 9 as the championship.
But hey, before you nay-say the NFL Europe Fantasy idea, realize that there are only 3 NFL Europe games a week, and every one of the games are televised courtesy of FOX and the NFL Network.
Just to get you started, these three facts: 1) Dave Ragone will be the man! 2) Somebody named Payton is in the league 3) The season starts in April and you have nothing better to do.
