For those of you who missed our last two back-to-back home stands, here is a brief re-cap of all the action.
The Glory squared off for four hard-fought games with the Chinese Taipei Olympic team on Monday, June 30. After losing the opening game by a score of 3-2 in 9 innings, the Glory rebounded by taking the next three games, scoring 16 runs to Chinese Taipei's three.
Pitcher Sarah Pauly was lights out in the circle for the Glory. While pitching a total of 15 innings, Pauly allowed just one earned run while striking out eight. Oli, and Courtney Bures, each had two home runs during the series.
After taking 3 out of the 4 from Chinese Taipei, the Glory had no downtime before welcoming the Chicago Bandits for their first ever visit to Glory Nation. Fans witnessed an impressive display by Desiree Serrano in the opening game. Serrano struck out an astounding 14 batters in 7 innings, getting the win for the Glory with a score of 6-3.
The following night, outfielder Catalina Morris was the only Glory player to successfully hit off of Bandits' pitchers Jessica Sallinger and Jamie Southern. Morris hit a three-run home run in the bottom of the 5th inning, but the Glory were ultimately unable to take the lead and lost by a final score of 4-3.
On July 6th, Game Three between the Glory and the Bandits, Amber Jackson hit a walk-off homerun in the bottom of the 8th to beat Chicago by a score of 5-4, giving the Glory plenty of momentum as they headed in to the final game of the eight game home stand.
The final game of the series was another nail-biter. Sarah Pauly, maintaining her successful season thus far, was automatic in the circle. She allowed just two hits and one run while striking out six in seven strong innings. Pauly's strong performance was enough to offset a lack of offense form the Glory lineup, as the Glory concluded the series against the Bandits with a 2-1 victory.
Glory Player of the Week ~ Catalina Morris
The Glory would like to congratulate Catalina Morris for being the Glory Player of the Week. Morris, an All-American out of Stanford University, crossed the plate five times -- two of them home runs -- over the long eight game home stand, and also had seven RBIs. In addition to her impressive display at the plate, Morris was spectacular in the field. Fans were brought to their feet in games against Chinese Taipei and Chicago when Morris made both a spectacular diving catch against Taiwan, and a fence-colliding grab against the Bandits. Both were in foul territory. Congratulations Catalina!
