
Newport Beach Breakers Team with Susan G. Komen for the Cure for Ladies Night Featuring Lindsay Dave

NEWPORT BEACH, Calif., June 22, 2010 - Two winning organizations will unite on July 15 when the Newport Beach Breakers, a 2009 World TeamTennis Pro League presented by GEICO playoff team and 2004 WTT champion, and the Susan G. Komen for the Cure Orange County Affiliate present Ladies Night featuring Lindsay Davenport when the Breakers face St. Louis at The Tennis Club Newport Beach.
As part of the Ladies Night festivities leading up to the 7:15 p.m. match, the Breakers will host a free women's tennis clinic, open to females of all ages who attend the July 15 match. The clinic features special appearances from Laguna Beach resident and former World No. 1 Davenport, a three-time Grand Slam singles winner who won 55 WTA Tour singles titles and ranks third on the WTA's all-time money list, and Long Beach native and former World No. 1 Billie Jean King, the WTT founder and Breakers co-owner who owns 39 combined Grand Slam singles and doubles titles (12 in singles, comprising all four Grand Slams).
Breakers coach Trevor Kronemann and Breakers players Julie Ditty and Marie-Eve Pelletier will conduct the clinic. All females can register for the tennis clinic from 5:15-5:30 p.m. at The Tennis Club Newport Beach (1602 E. Pacific Coast, Highway, Newport Beach, CA 92660). The clinic takes place from 5:30-6:15 p.m.
Tickets to the Breakers-St. Louis match on July 15 are $17.50 and can be obtained by calling 714-352-6301 or at www.newportbeachbreakers.com . Fans at the match are encouraged to "Pink Out" The Tennis Club Newport Beach by wearing pink clothes in support of breast cancer research and awareness. A portion of the proceeds from Ladies Night will benefit the Komen Orange County Affiliate.
"We are thrilled to continue our annual Ladies Night tradition by partnering with a worthy foundation like Susan G. Komen for the Cure," Breakers executive director Jeff Purser said. "We are all aware that breast cancer is the leading cause of cancer deaths in women from ages 40-59 and we are happy to join forces with the Komen for the Cure Orange County Affiliate and lend our support to its fight. Komen for the Cure's presence at our July 15 match will certainly raise awareness and educate people on breast cancer."
Susan G. Komen for the Cure launched its global breast cancer movement in 1982 and is the world's largest grassroots network of breast cancer survivors and activists fighting to save lives, empower people, ensure quality care for all and energize science to find the cures. The Komen for the Cure foundation raises public awareness and provides education about breast health and cancer, increased screening and early detection, and connects people to the resources they need for dealing with breast cancer diagnosis.
Komen for the Cure is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) public charity and has invested nearly $1 billion to support its efforts. It is the largest source of nonprofit funds dedicated to the fight against breast cancer in the world.
The Komen Orange County Affiliate provides a variety of education and community outreach programs, including Speakers Bureaus, Health Fairs, and a Hat & Wig Salon.

General admission tickets for four of the Breakers' seven home matches are sold as two-match packages. The "Maria Sharapova" package (good for the July 12 match vs. the Sacramento Capitals and the July 20 match vs. Kansas City, featuring Sharapova) and the "John McEnroe" package (good for the July 6 home opener vs. Sacramento and the July 22 season finale against McEnroe's New York Sportimes) are $45 each. Tickets to the Breakers-Kansas City match on July 9 - "Junior Night" - are $10.
The Breakers will play 14 matches in the 35th WTT Pro League regular season under Trevor Kronemann, who is coaching the team for the fourth consecutive season. The Breakers return their 2009 female players in USTA Pro Circuit all-time win leader Julie Ditty and Canadian Marie-Eve Pelletier. Together, Ditty and Pelletier won seven of their 13 women's doubles sets last year. The Breakers sport a new dynamic men's duo in Huntington Beach resident David Martin and Marina del Rey resident Lester Cook.
