
Newark Bears Trade for Outfielder Brandon Newton

The Newark Bears have traded pitchers Dan Jurick and Jimmer Kennedy to Sioux City in exchange for outfielder Brandon Newton, the club announced Friday.
Newton (LS-2), 27, has spent his three-year career playing at the independent level, most recently with the Sioux City Explorers of the American Association. He finished the 2012 season with a .332 batting average, 117 hits, 12 stolen bases and a .406 on base percentage.
For his career, Newton owns a .317 batting average with 303 hits and 53 stolen bases.
Jurick (LS-1), 25, spent the 2012 season with the Rockland Boulders of the Canadian-American Association, where he recorded a 4.14 ERA in 82.2 innings of work. The right-handed pitcher finished last season with 69 strikeouts and a 5-4 record.
The New York native was drafted by the Atlanta Braves in the 25th round of the 2010 MLB June Amateur Draft and spent the following two seasons playing in the Braves' minor league system. He has a career 3.69 ERA.
Kennedy (LS-1), 25, spent the 2012 season with the New Jersey Jackals of the Canadian-American Association, and finished with a 4.33 ERA in 43.2 innings of work.
The 2013 Newark Bears home opener will be played on Friday, May 17 at 7:05 p.m. at Bears & Eagles Riverfront Stadium.
