
Newark Bears Sign Former Major Leaguer D'Angelo Jimenez

The Newark Bears have announced the signing of former major league infielder D'Angelo Jimenez.
The 34-year-old spent 2011 in the Can-Am League as a member of the New Jersey Jackals, after playing in the Mexican League with two different teams. He batted .303 in 28 games for the Jackals. In the Mexican League, he hit .320 in 45 games.
For Jimenez, it will be his second stint with the Bears. He played part of the 2009 season in Newark, while the team was a member of the Atlantic League, batting .326 in 144 at bats over 38 games.
Jimenez played eight seasons in the major leagues, holding a .263 batting average with 36 home runs, 228 RBI and 36 stolen bases over his career. He played for seven different major league teams.
A prized prospect in the New York Yankees farm system, he made his Major League debut as a September call-up in 1999 with the club, before being traded to the San Diego Padres in 2001. He would later play for the Chicago White Sox, Cincinnati Reds, Texas Rangers, Oakland A's and Washington Nationals.
