
Newark Bears Acquire Outfielders JJ Sherrill and Jamar Walton

The Newark Bears have announced the additions of outfielders *J.J. Sherrill*and *Jamar Walton*. They were acquired from San Angelo of the North American League in exchange for future considerations.
Sherrill (veteran) was drafted by the Cleveland Indians in the 23rd round of the 1998 MLB Draft. He played in Cleveland's minor league system until 2005 and joined the independent ranks in 2006. He is a career .318 hitter in independent ball, boasting a .922 OPS. In 2012, he batted .345 for San Angelo with three home runs, 27 RBI and 22 stolen bases in 70 games.
Walton (veteran) was a fourth round draft pick of the Florida Marlins in 2004. He played in affiliated ball through 2010, before joining Evansville of the Frontier League in 2011. While with San Angelo in 2012, he batted .296 with two home runs and 43 RBI in 82 games. He is a career .297 hitter in the independent leagues.
Sherrill, Walton and the 2013 Newark Bears will open up their season on May 16 at Rockland. The team's home opener will be played on May 17 at 7:05 p.m. at Bears & Eagles Riverfront Stadium.
