New York Liberty Home Opener against Connecticut Sun at the Garden Saturday

NEW YORK, NY - May 16, 2014 - The New York Liberty will return home to the transformed Madison Square Garden on Saturday, May 17 for the team's 2014 home opener against Elena Delle Donne and the Chicago Sky. Tip-off is at 8:00 p.m. and the game will be aired nationally on ESPN2. Following a three-year stay in Newark, NJ, the Liberty will celebrate its long awaited return to The Garden with a free Fan Fest outside and complimentary t-shirts with "We Stand for Liberty" on the front and "Back to Black" on the back for all fans that attend the game.
The Fan Fest will be highlighted by several family friendly activities, including music, prizes, special performances, and basketball contests on the Liberty sport court. Liberty Legends Kym Hampton, Sue Wicks and Teresa Weatherspoon will also appear at the Fan Fest and attend the game. Tickets are still available by visiting nyliberty.com.

New York enters its second season under head coach and general manager Bill Laimbeer. In addition to All-Star guard Cappie Pondexter, the Liberty added 2012 WNBA MVP and former No. 1 draft pick Tina Charles in an offseason trade. All-Star forward Essence Carson is also returning to the court after a season-ending left anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) tear last season. Along with this trio, New York will rely on a group of proven veterans, including Plenette Pierson, Kara Braxton, Delisha Milton-Jones, Alex Montgomery, and second-year player Toni Young.
