HEADLINES

- Tina Charles has been named the Eastern Conference Player of the Month for the 6th time in her career and the third as a member of the Liberty. She led the WNBA in scoring (23.4 ppg) and rebounding (11.8 rpg) during the month of May, when she was also named the Eastern Conference Player of the Week (5/24). Her six Player of the Month awards are second all-time, trailing just Maya Moore (7).

- New York suffered a 79-69 loss to the Minnesota Lynx on Tuesday night at Madison Square Garden. After trailing by as many as 23, the Liberty fought back to pull withing six approaching two minutes to play in the fourth quarter, but was unable to cut any further into its deficit down the stretch. Tina Charles led the way with her fifth-straight double-double, finishing with 23 points and 11 rebounds.

- Shavonte Zellous is coming off her best game as a member of the Liberty. Against the Lynx on Tuesday, Zellous finished with 12 points, shooting 5-of-7 from the field.

- After Friday night's game against Indiana, New York will embark on the first of its two West Coast road trips this season. Coming off a 5-game homestand the Liberty will play 6-of-7 on the road.

TINA CHARLES NAMED EASTERN CONFERENCE PLAYER OF THE MONTH FOR MAY

Forward Tina Charles led the WNBA in scoring (23.4 ppg) and rebounding (11.8 rpg) through the first month of the season, leading to her being named the Eastern Conference Player of the Month for games played in May. Charles recorded a double-double in all five games, increasing her career double-double tally to 114, second all-time. It is the third time as a member of the Liberty that Charles has been named Player of the Month and the sixth in her career, which ranks second all-time behind Maya Moore (7). Dating back to last season, the Liberty has captured the last three Eastern Conference Player of the Month awards, tied for the second-longest streak in the award's seven-year history. Epiphanny Prince was the recipient last August, and Charles won the award in July '15.

WHAT A PERFORMANCE

When the Liberty faced the Atlanta Dream on May 24, Tina Charles did something that only two other players in WNBA history had accomplished. She finished with 29 points, 10 rebounds, 6 assists, and 7 steals, becoming just the third player ever to score at least 29 points with 10 rebounds and also post five-plus assists and steals (Brandy Reed '00; Candace Parker '14).

ZELLOUS BREAKS OUT

Shavonte Zellous enjoyed her best game as a member of the New York Liberty when NY hosted the Lynx on May 31. Zellous scored in double figures for the first time, shooting 5-of-7 from the field to finish with 12 points. So far this season, Zellous ranks third on the team in scoring at 7.2 ppg.
