New York Empire News Release
NEW YORK - The New York Empire presented by Citi announced today that head coach, Gigi Fernandez, will not coach in tonight's World TeamTennis presented by GEICO match against the San Diego Aviators. Fernandez told team officials that she'll be addressing a minor, ongoing health issue that surfaced last night during and after the match.
"I am disappointed that I will not be on the bench guiding the team during tonight's match as I need to address a minor health issue that I have been dealing with for some time now," said Fernandez. "I will be following the match online and I'm confident that our team's hard work will finally pay off with a win tonight."
Doubles specialist Neal Skupski will serve as a player-coach during tonight's match for the Empire. Fernandez plans to rejoin the Empire on Wednesday, Aug. 1 when the team visits the Philadelphia Freedoms.
