New York/New Jersey Juggernaut News Release

Baltimore, MD- Ripken Baseball today announced a partnership with the defending National Pro Fastpitch Champions, the NY/NJ Juggernaut, and 1996 Olympic Gold Medalist Julie Smith that will bring two Softball Camps to the Ripken Youth Baseball Academy in Aberdeen, MD this summer.

With plans to integrate softball into the camp line-up, Ripken Baseball began construction on four youth- sized skinned fields at the Ripken Youth Baseball complex last fall.

In their final stages, these professional quality fields will be completed in time for the softball camps that will be held June 19th- 24th and June 26th- July 1st. Both day and overnight sessions are available, but space is limited to 120 campers per camp.

Created from the Ripken Baseball camp philosophy, the camps will be structured, week long outings that give girls up to 18 years old the opportunity to work side-by-side with professional softball players on their skills and drills. Each day will consist of instruction in the morning with games in the afternoon.

The NY/NJ Juggernaut are led by head coach, 1996 Olympic Gold Medalist, Julie Smith. Julie played second base at the Olympic Games in Atlanta, Georgia, leading the USA National Team to its first of three gold medals. Julie is one of the most touted private camp instructors and clinicians in the softball community and is putting together the most elite camp on the East Coast for softball players.

Julie will be joined by second baseman Carri Leto, outfielder Alicia Smith, and pitcher Amanda Scott. Each of these ladies played a crucial role with the 2004 Championship Team and had successful college careers competing at Northwestern University, Hofstra University, and Fresno State University, respectively.

"We have heard from many players, parents and coaches that there is a growing need for quality softball camps on the East Coast," said Cal Ripken, Jr. "I am excited that we were able to forge a partnership with the Juggernaut and I am certain that these camps will provide the athletes attending with the same high quality instruction that they have come to expect from our staff. If these camps are received with the enthusiasm that we think they will be, we will look to increase programming opportunities in the future."

Camp spaces are limited and going fast, so register early for the experience of a lifetime. Call 800-486-0850 or log onto www.ripkenbaseball.com today – you won't want to miss this awesome opportunity to learn from the game's best!
