Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankees News Release
Construction on the new multi-leveled party deck at Lackawanna County Stadium is progressing and will be finished for the Red Barons home opener April 12 vs. Buffalo.
Since the end of the season workers from A.J. Guzzi Construction have been busy laying the foundation and erecting structural steel. This afternoon they took a major step in the process by pouring concrete that forms the deck slabs.
The new deck located over the visitor's bullpen in leftfield will offer many amenities for the general public and private groups.
Every home game a barbeque deck will be open to the public on the 1st floor featuring a wide variety of unique food items not offered in the concession stands. Fans can either dine on the deck or bring the food to their seats in the stands.
Private groups can rent one of the deck areas located on the 1st or 2nd level.
The 2nd level can accommodate a group or groups from 50-150 much the same way as the current deck in rightfield.
The 1st level deck is much larger and can hold a group as large as 300. It also features its own seating area in front for fans to watch the action on the field.
While all areas are currently "open air" future plans call for enclosing some areas to provide greater flexibility in colder months.
Other amenities on the new project will be restrooms on each level, an elevator to the upper level and a full-service kitchen in the basement for on-site catering.
Maybe the most unique aspect of the project, however, is on the backside.
Facing the parking lot is a stage platform that will serve several purposes. Initially it will host pre-game entertainment as well as off-day festivals. Once the Electric City Trolley line is extended past its current Stafford Ave. location to the stadium, it will used as a platform for fans to exit and board the trolley.
Groups wishing to receive more information on renting the new deck should call 570-969-2255 or send an e-mail to groups@epix.net.
