New and Old: Swashbucklers 2009 Roster Loaded with Talent

LAKE CHARLES - As the Southern Indoor Football League heads into the middle of tryouts and mini-camps, the Swashbucklers have made ample strides to filling in their 2009 roster. Some major names returning from the past two seasons IFL league championship teams will lead a new group of Bucs into the 2009 season.

On offense the Bucs will return League MVP Alvin Bartie who led the league in scoring. Kirt Duhon and all purpose Phillip O'Neal will be joined by Lapeacus Celestine to give the Swashbucklers a balance of speed and power. Wide outs returning are star receiver Marcus Wilridge, Sammy Knight and Henry Hunter who all made a huge impact in the Bucs 16-0 season. The offensive line will see the most transition as Jabari Hendricks is the only returning starter. Former center Dwight Hudler has moved to the sideline and will coach on the offensive side of the football.

On defense the Bucs will again be lead by one of the most feared pass rushers in the game in John Paul Jones, partner in crime Eddie White, Robert Hooker, and all purpose, Buck "The Truck" Harris who could play line or linebacker this year. Brandon Thomas, Mike English also returns to the "Bawl Hawk squad" who has just learned of the return of Two-time Defensive League MVP Damien Huren.

Notables missing are: MVP Shawn Piper who has relocated to Missouri, Freddie Harrison, 2007 Intense Bowl MVP, All-League Linebackers Ryan Garrison and Travis Moses, and Major Griffin, 7 time All League and Lineman of the Year have moved on to their respective careers along with Fan Favorite Whitney "Disco" Hillin.

The new comers who have stood out in mini-camps are wide receiver Courtney Allen of Crowley, Louisiana. Sean Thompson is a wide receiver that could see some action at quarterback out of Campbell University. Local Terrell Bennett has also shown strong improvement during camp. Tim Blackwell of Southern Miss and Devin Rispress of Florida are also hunting a roster spot at the running back position. Germany Thomas has also shown flashes of brilliance. Lance Freeman, former McNeese center will fill the void left by Coach Hudler when the Swashbucklers kick off in April.

"I am very excited about going into the upcoming season with the guys we have in front of us. This will be a competitive league with a lot of different looks. The games should be close and exciting for the fans. We are very optimistic we can continue a winning tradition here for Swashbuckler Nation." Coach Lee explained.
