New Acquisition Ready For Take Off At Alexian

SCHAUMBURG, IL- The Schaumburg Flyers have signed RHP Bill Snyder to a contract for the 2002 season. Snyder, 27, arrives in the Northwest suburbs after pitching with Class AA Midland of the Oakland system in 2001. He had previously pitched for the Detroit Tigers organization, the team that originally selected him, from 1997-2000. Starting his pro career in Class A Jamestown in the short season New York-Penn League, he then starred for the Class A West Michigan Whitecaps of the Midwest League, going 3-1 with a stellar 1.82 ERA in 42 appearances during the 1998 season. The 1999 campaign saw the 6'0" right-hander post a 4-1 record and 1.92 ERA. Snyder also had 16 saves to his credit that season at Class A Lakeland before adding 2 additional saves for Class AA Jacksonville. In 2000, he split time between Jacksonville and the Class AAA Toledo Mud Hens, before signing with the A's organization.

Snyder comes to the Northern League by way of his residence in Byron Center, MI. He played college ball at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in New York, where he was a two-time Division III All-American.

UTILITY MAN QUINTANA RETURNS

IF Alberto Quintana will be donning Flyer pinstripes once more, re-signing with the club after spending a portion of the 2000 season with Schaumburg. The 9-year veteran makes the short drive to Alexian Field from his home in suburban Woodridge. In addition to his Schaumburg stint, Quintana also played at Allentown in the Northern League-East two summers ago. The Northwestern University Economics major brings infield depth and worldwide baseball experience to the Flyers clubhouse. After being selected by Pittsburgh in the 1986 draft, he later spent 3 seasons in Barcelona, Spain as a player and general manager. The Quintana resume also includes a season in the Taiwan Major League in 1996. The Downers Grove North H.S. graduate has experience as an associate scout for the Atlanta and San Diego organizations.
