Neto, Waltman capture awards for second time this season
April 2, 2009 - Xtreme Soccer League (XSL) News Release
CHICAGO (April 2, 2009) - The Xtreme Soccer League honors the top offensive player, defensive player and goalkeeper in the league every month. March's Player of the Month selections are:
OFFENSE: Adauto Neto, New Jersey: Three XSL players notched 17 points in March. Neto claimed the award over Milwaukee's Marco Terminesi and Pernambuco by virtue of the way he lifted his team back into title contention. Neto, also the February award winner, had six goals and five assists in five games for the Ironmen.
DEFENSE: Rey Martinez, New Jersey: Former Cuban National Team player Martinez had a standout month for the Ironmen, blocking eight shots in five games. He also made the most out of each time he crept up from the New Jersey backfield into the offensive attack, notching 10 points on five goals. He averaged a goal per game, a rare feat for a defender.
GOALKEEPER: Danny Waltman, Detroit: Waltman becomes the first repeat winner of this award after leading the Ignition to a 4-2 record in March and helping them clinch the first XSL championship. Waltman saved 83 of 108 shots, added an assist against the Milwaukee Wave on March 20 and scored key wins at Chicago and New Jersey late in the month.
Founded last summer by the Milwaukee Wave, Detroit Ignition, New Jersey Ironmen and Chicago Storm, the Xtreme Soccer League is more than an indoor soccer league. The Xtreme Soccer Xperience is an energetic and innovative 12-month sports lifestyle brand built around skilled soccer professionals, entertainment and fan participation - both live and online.
