New Jersey Ironmen News Release

Newark, N.J. (Thursday, April 2, 2009) - The Xtreme Soccer League announced today their final Player of the Month awards for the 2008-09 season, and for the third month in a row, the New Jersey Ironmen were honored by the league. Forward Adauto Neto was named the Offensive Player of the Month for the second consecutive month, while defender Rey Martinez got the nod as the Defensive Player of the Month.

"It's definitely an honor for the players to be acknowledged for their hard work," Ironmen Head Coach Omid Namazi stated. "It shows that we have brought quality players to this franchise, and we are on the right track."

Reigning Offensive Player of the Month Adauto Neto turned in another high-powered month for the Ironmen, recording 17 points on a well-balanced six goals and five assists. The Brazilian striker also added two blocks to his efforts. Neto averaged 1.2 goals and one assist per game for the month, and he is now tied for the league lead in two-point goals (15) and second in the league in assists (15). His 45 points place him second on the XSL list behind only teammate Lucio Gonzaga.

"We all knew of Neto's qualities when we were able to land him here," Namazi commented. "After battling some early season injuries, he has been offensively dominant over the second half."

Former Cuban National Team player Rey Martinez had a standout month for the Ironmen, blocking eight shots in five games. He also made the most out of each time he crept up from the New Jersey backfield into the offensive attack, notching 10 points on five goals. He averaged a goal per game, a rare feat for a defender.

"Rey has truly had a breakout year this season," Namazi said. "He has filled in at whatever spot we have needed him this year, whether it be as a midfielder or more recently as a defender, and he has excelled at both positions."

New Jersey will finish up their season at Prudential Center this weekend. First up, they will host the Milwaukee Wave at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday afternoon with former New York Giants captain George Martin as honorary captain before finishing the season on Sunday against the Wave with former U.S. National Team captain Claudio Reyna as honorary captain. Tickets are available now by calling 1-800-IRONMEN.
