NBDL daily developments
Published on February 17, 2005 under NBA G League (G League) News Release
COMPANY'S COMING: A Roanoke victory at Columbus today would pull the Dazzle even with the Dragons at the top of the league standings. Coach Jeff Malone's Riverdragons have been at the top of NBDL heap all alone since December 3. The Dazzle and Columbus shared the top spot on December 2 when both sported 3-1 records. They have split four games this season.
ANDERSEN SLAM: The first player ever drafted and the first player to earn a GATORADE Call-Up is also the first former NBDL player to compete in the Sprite Rising Stars Slam Dunk. Chris Andersen, currently of the New Orleans Hornets and formerly of the Fayetteville Patriots, will join Western Conference All-Star Amare Stoudemire, Josh Smith of the Hawks and teammate J.R. Smith in the contest to be held on NBA All-Star Saturday night in Denver.
SECOND TIME AROUND: Although Andersen is the first former D-Leaguer to compete in the Sprite Rising Star Slam Dunk, it's not his first time in the field. Andersen came up just short in last year's contest, competing as a Denver Nugget.
ALSO IN DENVER: Former D-Leaguer and current Piston Ronald Dupree, along with former North Charleston head coach and current Raptors assistant Alex English, will take part in the RadioShack Shooting Stars competition. Current Fayetteville mascot Sgt. Slam is also in the Mile High City to compete in the mascots slam dunk contest at NBA Jam Session.
TWIN: "This Week in the NBDL" airs today at 8 p.m. ET on NBA TV. Today's show features interviews with Huntsville coach Ralph Lewis and Flight forward Damone Brown, as well as Columbus forward Scott Merritt.
