NBDL daily developments

Published on January 27, 2005 under NBA G League (G League) News Release

ALUMNI CHECK: Former NBDL point guard Rafer Alston scored a team-high 29 points and passed out eight assists for the Toronto Raptors against the Miami Heat Wednesday night. Another former D-Leaguer, Bobby Simmons of the Clippers, connected on 8-of-10 field goal attempts and scored 21 points against the Lakers.

OFFICIAL ALUMNI: More than just former NBDL players were making a living in the NBA Wednesday night. Five of the 11 referees who have earned an NBDL-to-NBA promotion since November 2001 were working NBA games. Mark Ayotte was on the crew for the Raptors-Heat game, Zach Zarba for the Rockets-Hornets, Ed Malloy for the Timberwolves-Hawks, while Robbie Robinson worked the Mavericks-Trail Blazers game and Anthony Jordan the Nets-Warriors.

BANG! Sung-Yoon Bang, just the second player from Korea to play professional basketball in the United States, came off the bench to post a career-best 28 points in just 24 minutes for the Roanoke Dazzle in a win over league-leading Columbus Wednesday night.

OUTSIDE THE MARGIN: Roanoke's 26-point margin of victory was easily the biggest deficit for Columbus this season, whose previous largest margin of defeat was eight points. The top defensive team in the NBDL, the Riverdragons allow just 86.4 points per game.

THEY CAN REALLY SCORE: Columbus can take some solace in the fact that Roanoke is the league's best offensive team (106.0 ppg) and also leads the league in margin of victory at +5.0.

QUOTE OF THE DAY: "We're a mediocre team without him. We can't score right now," Columbus coach Jeff Malone said about shooting guard Adam Harrington being out of action with a groin injury.

TWIN: "This Week in the NBDL", the league's weekly live magazine-style show, airs tonight at 9 p.m. ET on NBA TV. The show, hosted by Andre Aldridge, will feature interviews with Roanoke guard Matt Carroll, Columbus guard Adam Harrington and Phoenix Suns guard Smush Parker, formerly of the Florida Flame. This week's "All-Access" feature allows the viewer to get to know the Asheville Altitude and Florida Flame.

GAME OF THE WEEK: The NBDL "Game of the Week" on NBA TV airs today at 3:30 p.m. ET. The featured game is the Asheville vs. Columbus game, which was played on the first day of the NBDL Martin Luther King, Jr. Showcase on January 16.

ALL-STAR PACKAGE: NBDL fans dreaming of going to the NBA All-Star Game could have that opportunity very soon. One lucky winner and three guests will get to live the All-Star Dream with a package that includes four All-Star ticket packages, hotel accommodations for four and round trip airfare for four. Go to NBDL.com and find out how to win.
