November 22, 2004 - NBA G League (G League) News Release
MINARD AND MEEKING: Columbus forward Ricky Minard and Asheville forward Antonio Meeking have taken the early scoring lead after the opening weekend in the NBDL. Minard is averaging 28.0 ppg and Meeking 27.0.
BOARD CLEANER: Nobody has cleaned the boards in the early going like Roanoke forward James Thomas. In two games the University of Texas product has collected 37 rebounds, or 18.5 per game.
FLIGHT MISSION: The entire team and staff of the Huntsville Flight will be at the Downtown Rescue Mission in Huntsville this afternoon to assist in transporting food to over 250 people or families in need.
TURKEY DELIVERY: The Asheville Altitude is partnering with the Ritz Restaurant on Wednesday to help deliver turkeys to families who need them in the Asheville area.
BINGO: Fayetteville's Chris Brooks answers to a couple of family nicknames, "Bingo" and Naked Man". Brooks explains that his mom loves playing bingo and played often while pregnant with him. As for "Naked Man", Brooks says it's as simple as that as a child he liked to run around nude. Absolutely, Chris, thanks for sharing.
NBDL QUIZ: Can you name the NBDL team that has a member of the coaching staff and a point guard who played their collegiate basketball at the same university?
SPEAKING UP AT 19: Florida Flame radio play-by-play man Nick Krueger could possibly be the youngest radio announcer currently working in professional sports. Krueger, a sophomore communications major at Florida Gulf Coast Community College, took the microphone for the Flame season-opener Sunday night at 19 years of age.
HOLDING SERVE: All of the home teams except one were victorious in opening weekend NBDL play. Fayetteville was the only team to lose at home, making the defending champion Asheville Altitude the only team to take a road win, 113-92 over the Patriots on Saturday.
WIN STREAK: With a pair of victories this weekend, the Asheville Altitude extended its winning streak to nine games dating back to March 30 of last season.
TWIN: "This Week in the NBDL", the D-League's weekly live show returns to NBA TV on Dec. 2 and is scheduled to air every Thursday at 9 p.m. throughout the season. Andre Aldridge serves as host.
QUIZ ANSWER: Huntsville Flight assistant coach Roy Rogers and point guard Antoine Pettway both played collegiately at the University of Alabama.
