NBA D-League Update

GOUDELOCK SETTING UP SHOP IN EL SEGUNDO
Andrew Goudelock has unlimited shooting range. His daily routine is a little more confined.
Goudelock, the L.A. Lakers' second-round pick (46th overall) in the 2011 NBA Draft, can usually be found in training camp at the team's practice facility in El Segundo, as the Lakers prepare to tip off the season on Christmas Day.
He also recently moonlighted as a member of the L.A. D-Fenders, the Lakers' NBA D-League affiliate, scoring 24 points Saturday night in a 96-68 win over Bakersfield. It just so happens the D-Fenders play their home games at the Lakers' practice facility. He was joined by fellow Lakers rookie Malcolm Thomas on assignment with the D-Fenders.
Given the condensed nature of all that confronts him these days, it shouldn't come as a surprise that Goudelock has been staying at a Hilton Garden Inn a few minutes from El Segundo until he can find permanent housing.
He does have a guaranteed contract for the 2011-12 season, as well as an opportunity to provide some outside shooting to a team that struggled in this area in 2010-11.
"We're moving so fast," Goudelock told the L.A Times at the Lakers' media day. "It's a lot different. It was like a whirlwind for me. I didn't know what was going on."
Goudelock averaged 23.7 points on 46 percent shooting as a senior last season at the College of Charleston, becoming the school's all-time leading scorer (2,571). He also shot 41 percent from three-point range for his career. He finished fourth in assists (424), and knows the Lakers are expecting him to be able handle point guard duties, in addition to knocking down shots.
"They didn't draft me to be a shooting guard," Goudelock said. "That's what a lot of people think. Hopefully, I can show people I can make good decisions with passing the ball and keeping everyone involved. People know me for my shooting, but at this stage of my playing career, what will get me on the court is what I do defensively."
PROSPECT REPORT
Malcolm Thomas, Los Angeles D-Fenders -- Though he only appeared in one game on assignment from the Lakers, who signed him on Dec. 13, Thomas will likely see more time in the NBA D-League this season, whether he makes the Lakers' opening day roster, or signs with the D-Fenders. Despite leading San Diego State to the Sweet Sixteen in 2011, and turning in one of the more impressive performances at the Portsmouth Invitational Tournament, Thomas was not drafted and headed overseas before returning to the States to take a shot at the NBA. His lone box score (13 points, six rebounds, four blocks, two assists, two steals) with the D-Fenders is indicative of the type of player Thomas is -- versatile. He's also an exceptional athlete, with a solid feel for the game and an affinity for defense, which should play well with Lakers coach Mike Brown.
