WEDNESDAY NIGHT HIGHLIGHTS...top performers from Wednesday's games:
Iowa's Curtis Stinson led all scorers with 29 points, to go along with seven rebounds and nine assists, leading the top-seeded Energy (1-0) to a first-round win at seventh-seeded Utah. Marqus Blakely added 15 points and 13 rebounds for Iowa, which can close out the series and advance to the semifinals with a win at home on Monday. Andre Ingram led the Flash (0-1) with 22 points, while Nkem Ojougboh tallied 17 points and 14 rebounds for Utah.
Jerome Dyson scored a game-high 23 points, and Robert Vaden added 20 points, leading No. 4 seed Tulsa (1-0) to a first-round win at No. 8 seed Texas (0-1). Chris Roberts scored 20 points, Joe Alexander had 15 points and 10 rebounds and Sean Williams tallied 11 points, 17 rebounds and seven blocks for the Legends, who need to win at Tulsa on Friday to avoid elimination.
LOS ANGELES LAKERS REASSIGN CARACTER TO NBA D-LEAGUE AFFILIATE BAKERSFIELD JAM
Los Angeles Lakers forward Derrick Caracter was reassigned to the Bakersfield Jam, the Lakers' NBA Development League affiliate. The assignment marks the 54th time in the 2010-11 season an NBA player has been assigned to an NBA D-League affiliate, and it is the second assignment for Caracter, a rookie out of Texas-El Paso. With Caracter's assignment, the NBA D-League has seen record highs this season in total NBA player assignments (54), individual NBA players assigned (37) and NBA teams assigning a player (25). Caracter (6-9, 275) was first assigned on March 29. He appeared in three games (one start) with Bakersfield, averaging 8.7 points and 6.0 rebounds in 19.7 minutes. Caracter has played in 40 games this season for the Lakers, averaging 2.0 points and 1.1 rebounds in 5.3 minutes. The Lakers selected Caracter, an early-entry candidate, in the second round (58th overall) of the 2010 NBA Draft, and Caracter led the Lakers' NBA Summer League team in scoring (15.4 ppg) and rebounding (8.6 rpg) over five games. Caracter is expected to join Bakersfield for the Jam's first-round opener in the NBA D-League Playoffs, at home against the Rio Grande Valley Vipers on Friday at 10 p.m. ET. TULSA'S LARRY OWENS SIGNS WITH WASHINGTON WIZARDS
Forward Earns 2010-11 NBA D-League Season's 22nd GATORADE Call-Up The Washington Wizards signed forward Larry Owens of the Tulsa 66ers for the remainder of the season yesterday for the 22nd GATORADE Call-Up of the 2010-11 NBA Development League season. Owens' call-up, his second this season, increases the number of current NBA players with NBA D-League experience to 98. Owens (6-7, 210) earned a GATORADE Call-Up to the San Antonio Spurs in January. He appeared in seven games with the Spurs, averaging 1.3 points in 4.4 minutes. In 43 games (42 starts) this season with Tulsa, Owens averaged 12.4 points, 5.0 rebounds and 3.0 assists, leading the 66ers to a 33-17 record and a berth in the NBA D-League Playoffs.
