IN WITH THE WIN: The Florida Flame clinched the first playoff berth in team history by defeating the Fayetteville Patriots on Saturday.
THEY SAID IT: "I think this was one of my better coaching jobs. It was like coaching two different teams. We lost five guys but we rebuilt this. We grew up." ... Florida coach Jeff Malone told the Fort Meyers News-Press after the Flame clinched the team's first playoff berth and his third trip to the D-League postseason.
POSTSEASON SET: The field for the 2006 NBA Development League Championship presented by Delta Air Lines is set regardless of today's outcome in the regular season finale in Fort Worth. Both semi-final games will be played on Saturday, April 15 with Roanoke (#4) visiting Fort Worth (#1) and Florida (#3) traveling to Albuquerque (#2).
HOW DO YOU FIGURE THAT? If Albuquerque beats Fort Worth today the T-Birds are the second seed outright. Florida and Roanoke would be tied and the Flame wins the tie breaker to get the third seed. Even if Fort Worth beats Albuquerque today and creates a three-way tie between Albuquerque, Roanoke and Florida, the T-Birds win the three-way tie breaker and the Flame beats the Dazzle head-to-head to earn the third seed.
GOOD COMPETITION: Seven of eight teams will finish the season with at least a .500 record and with a possibility of just four games separating first and seventh places.
TOO LITTLE TOO LATE: The D-League's hottest team is on the outside looking in as the playoffs begin. The Tulsa 66ers finished the season by winning seven of their last eight games, all against the postseason field.
TODAY IN D-LEAGUE HISTORY
