CORNWALL - The Nationals got back on track with a 13-6 victory over the North Shore Knights on Saturday night at the Civic Complex in front of a gathering of only 358 fans.

The Nationals halted a two-game losing streak in handing North Shore its eighth straight Federal Hockey League loss.

Daniel Martin opened the scoring for the Nationals 5:05 into the contest, when he pounced on Brandon Vuic's rebound for a powerplay marker.

Local forward Brandon Gilmour gave Cornwall a 2-0 lead when he wired a wrist shot past North Shore goaltender Ching Ho Chung at 9:58 of the first. Gilmour then blasted a one-timer past Chung for his second of the night with 4:48 to go in the opening period.

MJ Graham banged in his own rebound to give Cornwall a 4-0 lead with 2:37 to play in the first. North Shore responded with 1:25 left on the clock, however, on a Christopher Magi marker.

Magi then beat Cornwall's Brandon Billie at 6:53 of the second to cut the Nationals lead in half at 4-2. The Nationals responded 31 seconds later, however, when Justin Portillo tipped in Yan Dumontier's shot from the point.

North Shore's Josh Newberg then redirected a shot past Billie with at 9:38 of the second to cut Cornwall's lead to 5-3. But 37 seconds later, Martin went in on a breakaway and tucked a backhander between Chung's legs.

After Newberg scored his second of the contest with seven minutes to paly in the second, Jakob Smith and Lukas Sladkovsky scored 11 seconds apart as the Nationals opened up an 8-4 lead. Rick Odria replaced Chung in goal for North Shore.

Magi completed the hat trick with a breakaway goal 1:23 into the third. Marek Malinsky then brought the Knights to within two goals when he beat Billie at 2:45 of the third with a shorthanded effort.

Martin then finished off a hat trick of his own with a shorthanded breakaway goal at 3:58 of the third to give the Nationals a 9-6 lead.

Graham added his second of the night, finishing off a pretty passing play, at 11:20 of the third. Moments later, Sladkovsky potted his second of the evening to give Cornwall an 11-6 lead.

Power forward Brandon Vuic then redirected a shot past Odria with 5:02 to play. Jay Kenney, looking like a soccer star on the point, picked up an assist on the play.

Graham outworked a Knights defenceman to earn his hat trick goal with 5.3 seconds to play in the contest and round out the scoring.

Cornwall outshot North Shore 60-36. Martin (first), Gilmour (second) and Graham were the announced stars.
