Hamilton Nationals News Release
Toronto - The Toronto Nationals (3-1) host the Washington Bayhawks (1-3) this weekend on Saturday June 13th at BMO Field. The game start time originally scheduled for 7:00 p.m. has been changed to 1:30 p.m. EST. All printed tickets with the 7:00 p.m. start time will be honoured at the gates.
Defeating the Bayhawks twice on the road in Annapolis, MD, most recently by a score of 17-15 at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium last Thursday evening, Toronto hosts Washington for the first time. This weekend's match up will be the third and final meeting between the two teams in the regular season.
On Thursday June 4th, the Nationals were led by midfielder Joe Walters who tallied five goals earning him game MVP honours for the game. Goaltender Rob Scherr played 33:34 minutes, collecting 12 saves on 20 shots and goalie Brett Queener recorded the win turning away 10 of Washington's 16 shots in his 26:26 minutes in goal.
"It feels good to have a big game, mainly because I know that I helped put our team in a position to win," said Walters. "I was more aggressive with the ball and even if it does not show up in the box score, being aggressive keeps the defence honest and demands their attention."
"Joe has played really well all year for us so far," said head coach Dave Huntley. "It was nice to see his play reflected on the scoreboard and win the game MVP award."
"Playing any team three times is a tough task, especially in such a short time period" said Walters. "I am looking forward to getting back to Toronto on Saturday and getting win number four."
The Nationals opened their inaugural season on the road against the Bayhawks and finished the game on top by a score of 17-16 to open the 2009 season on May 15th. Huntley says the team will have to keep playing better to win this third game against Washington.
"Everyone says it's tough to beat a team three times but it's been tough to beat this team twice already. We've been fortunate to get the two wins."
The team hits the road against next weekend to travel to Denver to face the Outlaws for the first time this season on Saturday June 20th at 7:00 p.m. EST.
