Nationals Acquire Amidon from Charlotte

The Hamilton Nationals acquired midfielder Josh Amidon from the Charlotte Hounds on Trade Deadline Day in Major League Lacrosse. The Nationals also received a first round pick in the 2015 MLL Collegiate Draft in a deal that sent midfielder Josh Hawkins to Charlotte.
"We've identified the 2015 draft as one that will be deep in local high-end talent. We now have three first round selections in 2015, which we are excited about," said Nationals General Manager Stu Brown. "Amidon is a player that our staff and players are familiar with from his days at Syracuse. We had him on our draft board a few years ago as a player we thought would be a good fit for us. He can play both sides of the ball and I think he will complement our other players well."
Amidon has played in 20 MLL games with the Charlotte Hounds and collected 10 goals, three two-point goals, six assists and 11 ground balls in his MLL career. In 2013, he recorded eight points (4+2+2) in six games. The LaFayette, NY native played four years at Syracuse University. In 68 games, he scored 49 goals and added 35 assists for 84 points. In addition, the midfielder collected 51 ground balls. He was named an Honorable Mention All-American in both his junior (2010) and senior (2011) seasons. In 2011, he was also an All-Big East Second Team selection and team co-captain. Amidon began his college career by winning back-to-back NCAA Championships (2008-09).
"He is a really balanced player who can play offense and defense," said Hamilton Head Coach Dave Huntley. "He gives us another two-point threat (as well), and will help us out quite a bit."
In the trade, Hawkins heads to Charlotte after playing in three games with the Nationals. He scored two goals and collected eight ground balls. He was the Nationals' first-round selection (fifth overall) in the 2013 Major League Lacrosse Collegiate Draft. Hawkins played his college lacrosse at Loyola and was a two-time All-American.
Hamilton travels to Rochester to play the Rattlers on Sunday, July 7th at 3:00 p.m. at Sahlen's Stadium. The game will be televised on the CBS Sports Network.
