Nashua Silver Knights Named Organization of the Year

Nashua Silver Knights News Release

NASHUA, NH - The Nashua Silver Knights are proud to announce the team has been awarded the Futures Collegiate Baseball League's first annual "Organization of the Year" voted by league executives.

The inaugural season of Silver Knights baseball team exceeded expectations, both on and off the field, finishing first across the board. The Silver Knights led the league in attendance while also winning the league's first championship.

"It was a season we won't soon forget," said Silver Knights President Tim Bawmann. "To be able to bring baseball back to Historic Holman, but also bring a championship team to the people of Nashua was a special year."

"It was only fitting that the Silver Knights took home the first ever FCBL Organization of the Year Award," said FCBL Commissioner Chris Hall. "They excelled at all aspects of the organization from the play on the field, to the on-field promotions and to the attendance. They are a first class organization. They have really set the bar for the Futures League."

The Silver Knights averaged nearly 900 fans per game, finishing the season by averaging approximately 1,500 fans over the last four games of the season.

It wasn't about just baseball at Holman Stadium, as the management team from the Lowell Spinners made a concerted effort to bring their brand of "Spinnertainment" to Nashua. The season included highlights from Stanley Cup Champion Shawn Thornton, New England Patriots kicker Stephen Gostkowski kicking autographed footballs into the stands, Cowboy Monkey Rodeo, Wally the Green Monster and the return of "The World Famous" Monkey Boy.

"Families are looking for more in their entertainment experience," said Bawmann. "Whether it was between innings fun, giveaway items, theme nights, visits from celebrities or the standby of fireworks, we made it a priority to ensure your trip to Holman was about more than just baseball."

While the non-baseball antics were a draw, the team on the field excelled. Comprised mainly of local products playing college baseball, the Silver Knights won five of the seven season awards. Eric Perrault (Keene State/Salem N.H.) won Top Pro Prospect/Pitcher, Rob Benedict (Wesley) won "Defensive Player of the Year", Logan Gillis (Bentley/Merrimack N.H.) was named Batting Champion and Dylan Maki (Northeastern/Gloucester, Mass.) won "Top Relief Pitcher" and Mike Chambers (Franklin Pierce/Londonderry N.H.) won "Manager of the Year." The Silver Knights also landed six of the league's 13 post-season All-Star selections.

"We can't understate the importance of making this league a showcase for local talent," said Bawmann. "Players from New England play so many fewer games than their counterparts in warmer parts of the country that they often get overlooked when it comes to summer ball and the Major League Baseball Draft. We're thrilled to provide an opportunity for these players to get more at-bats, more innings and a chance to be seen."

Silver Knights season tickets and group outings for the 2012 season are on sale now. To order, contact the Silver Knights at (603) 718-8883. For more information on the Silver Knights, visit www.NashuaSilverKnights.com.
