(NASHUA, NH, November 14, 2007) Nashua Pride officials announced today that offseason player procurement efforts have already begun for the 2008 campaign. The Pride received four players in the Can Am league dispersal draft for the traveling Grays team and has agreed to terms with the New Haven County Cutters to purchase the contracts of outfielder Jeremy Pickrel, infielder Matt Mercurio, catcher Matt Hackney, and pitchers Mike Joyce, David "Bucky" Kosyk, Adam Piechowski, and Andy Weimer.

"Today's signings are just another example of our renewed commitment towards creating a fun, family-friendly baseball experience in 2008," said owner John Stabile. "Earlier this offseason, the Nashua community demonstrated their commitment towards the Pride and I intend to reward that support by fielding a high caliber team capable of defending the CanAm league championship in 2008."

Pickrel, 24, finished 2007 with a .287 average while slugging 11 HR and 54 RBI in 83 games. The outfielder hit 18 doubles, 9 triples, and 25 stolen bases while splitting time between New Haven County and the New Jersey Jackals. The Galesburg, Illinois native was selected in the 10th round by the Minnesota Twins in the 2004 draft.

Righthanders Weimer (5-6, 3.19 ERA, 20 SV, 59.1 IP) and Piechowski (6-2, 2.31 ERA, 46.2 IP, 55 K), and southpaw Joyce (2-4, 3.29 ERA, 52 IP, 29 K) were superb out of the Cutters bullpen in 2007. While starter "Bucky" Kosyk, 22, went 4-2 with a 3.08 ERA in 15 games (13 starts) for New Haven County.

Mercurio, 24, hit .226 with 31 RBI, 14 2B, and 11 SB for the Cutters in 2007. The infielder spent 2005 and 2006 in the Boston Red Sox organization.

In 202 at bats, Hackney, 24, hit .213 with 13 RBI while providing solid defense behind the plate for the Cutters in 2007.

The Pride have also acquired outfielder Sean Gamble, infielder Mike Pierre, and pitchers Dustin Nielsen and Matt Zachary in the Grays dispersal draft. Gamble hit .273 with 6 HR and 49 RBI while Pierre hit at a .285 clip with 1 HR and 25 RBI in only 137 at bats in the 2007 season. Nielsen, 5-4, 5.23 ERA in 63.2 IP, and Zachary, 1-3, 3.02 ERA in 44.2 IP, worked mostly out of the bullpen this past season.
