(FORT MYERS, FL, October 31, 2006) Through the semi-final game on Saturday, Oct. 28, of the Women's National Baseball Tournament, the Nashua Pride Pioneers of the North American Women's Baseball League (NAWBL) amassed a 6-0 record while outscoring their opponents 51-6. However, the team's winning streak and stellar play hit a snag in the championship game on Sunday, Oct. 29, as the Pioneers fell 10-2 to the New England Red Sox, a travel team whose players gather from all over the country for national tournaments.

There were some tremendous statistics put up by the Pioneer players en route to their championship final appearance. Aussie import, Christal Fitzgerald, led the club with a stunning .600 batting average and also drove home 6 RBI. Fitzgerald continued her dominance on the mound by winning two games in 8 IP with a 1.12 ERA. Pride general manager, Robin Wallace, maintained a .583 batting average in five games of play while knocking in three runs and stealing three bases. Wallace put on quite a pitching performance, as well, by finishing with a 2-0 record in 7 IP and a 0.00 ERA.

Other notable Pioneer performances: Local Northfield, NH resident, Kathy O'Connor, hit .556 while driving in 3 RBI and scoring 3 times. Ashley Cook played extremely well in five games finishing the tournament with a .545 average. Cheryl Milligan had a breakout game by going 3-for-3 with a RBI double in the Pioneers' 10-0 demolition of the East Coast Yankees in game two of the tournament.

The games were played Oct. 24-29 in Ft. Myers, FL at Lee County Stadium, the spring training home for the Twins, as well as City of Palms Park, the spring training site of the Boston Red Sox.
